The Centre for High Performance Development (CHPD) will be taking part in this year's London Better Together Day on 16th May 2008.  This is a volunteer event organised by Business in the Community and supported by many businesses across the capital.

A team of 11 vounteers from CHPD will be helping out for the day at St Peter's RC Primary School in Greenwich.  The school is situated in a very deprived area of South East London, with a third of pupils entitled to free school meals and 41 per cent learning English as an additional language.

The CHPD team will join volunteers from PriceWaterhouseCoopers to whitewash a long wall under the playground shelter and paint a mural.  They will also be painting ceilings and beams to enhance the school environment.

In addition to allowing staff to take part in the day, CHPD has also provided funds to cover the cost of materials.

Caroline Warren, one of the CHPD volunteers, said: "We're really looking forward to doing something tangible for this school.  We already run a mentoring and reading programme with another local school, so it's great to be able to add the London Better Together day to our contributions to the local community."
