Where are the women leaders?
CHPD co-founder, Chris Parry, talks about diversity in the first podcast to be launched on a new website - www.hrpodcast.co.uk. In the interview with journalist, Guy Clapperton, Chris explores some of the reasons why there are still so few women at the very top in British business. She explains that the issue often needs tackling at both an individual and an organisational level.
CHPD has conducted a number of research projects into women in leadership. The results show that women tend to use developmental behaviours more than men, who are more directional and that women actually had a higher overall capability – particularly at the earlier stages of their career when they were managing smaller teams. Things did even out beyond the middle management level, but according to Chris, women really are just as capable as men.
The podcast also features comment from Caroline Waters, director of people and policy for BT Group.
