Leadership in the Middle East (October 2008)
The Middle East has seen extraordinarily growth in the last seven years. When businesses grow very quickly, they face a significant challenge in ensuring that their own people have the right skills.
For the last 30 years, we have researched and benchmarked thousands of leaders around the world. Our recent work in both Qatar and the United Arab Emirates has shown us that the Middle East is a part of a global leadership shortage. There are great opportunities for us to work with companies in the Middle East to identify and develop leaders at all organisational levels.
We will be undertaking new research to examine the cultural complexity of leadership behaviour in this region.
Chris Parry, executive chairman, will be leading this research: “I’m going to be personally interviewing the most respected leaders to identify how they apply the High Performance Behaviours. The findings of this exercise will be combined with an analysis of the leadership profiles of senior managers to enable us to draw some conclusions about leadership in the region.”
Much of our work involves helping leaders develop their High Performance Behaviours and Chris Parry believes this research will enable CHPD training and development programmes to be finely tuned to these cultural diversities.
